MAVIS CHAPMAN (1914 - 1985)

Mavis Eva Chapman was a pioneering Australian Abstract Expressionist. She was better known for establishing the Mavis Chapman Gallery in Double Bay, Sydney, which was an important institution for promoting mid-century abstract art and as a important social setting in Sydney's thriving art community in the 1960s and 1970s.
